Baffler XL & Bio Cell From Cobra

By ED TRAVIS

Cobra Golf has two new lines for the 2014 season a new line – one an update of a previous success and the other commemorating the 40 years since the original Baffler.

Bio Cell for next season builds on the AMP design and has two driver models, the Bio Cell with all of Cobra's design goodies: MyFly8 adjustable hosel, SmartPad, E9 Face and BiO Cells replacing the AMP cells. The Bio Cell+ has a 440cc head and the similar features. Expect to see this one the PGA Tour in the hands of Rickie Fowler and other Cobra staff members.

BiO Cell Drivers will be available in five standout shades: Blue Aster, Black, Barbados Red, Vibrant Orange and Silver. It is part of a full line including BiO CELL Fairways, Hybrids and Irons. Both the fairways and hybrids are adjustable and offers the same five colors as the driver.

Baffler, the iconic utility club name, has been brought back by Cobra as the Baffler XL for a line of men's and women's drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons each being easily identifiable sporting a Legion Blue clubhead color scheme.

The game improvement category Baffler XL Driver has a larger clubface than Cobra's AMP CELL Offset Driver it replaces with more of the face is located above the low CG. The larger face creates more trampoline effect for more consistency with hits across the face and more confidence on the tee.

"We increased the effective face area, lowered the CG and designed our largest driver face ever to deliver an easy to hit driver," commented Tom Preece, Vice President of Research & Development. "The Baffler XL Driver is an easy to hit driver packed with technology to hit it far and straight."

Baffler XL Fairways and Hybrids have a steel face with more flex for higher ball speed and a super low center of gravity from 30% more tungsten weighting than the Baffler T-Rail+ and a shallower face. The well-known Baffler rails have been made bigger to lessen drag with the ground at impact.

"The Baffler XL Fairways and Hybrids were designed with the specific intent to make golf easier," said Preece. "We achieved that through the combination of a high MOI clubhead, low CG, pronounced rails and increased Tungsten in the perimeter. All of these technologies work together to increase ball speed, lower spin, improve confidence at address and ultimately make the ball go farther and make golf easier and more enjoyable."
