Exotics XCG7

By ED TRAVIS

As we have pointed out in the past Tour Edge Golf has a history of providing golfers with the latest in design, materials and construction at attractive prices and that continues with the two XCG7 driver models just announced this week. As the name signifies this is the seventh in the series and with a slight departure from previous years two clubheads are being offered, the now almost standard 460 cc size for average swing speeds and a smaller 440 cc targeted at better players. The larger XCG7 and the smaller XCG7 Beta share adjustability of the hosel to change the loft from 8½ to 12 degrees and a variable thickness ‘Power Grid’ on the sole to give that Tour Edge says helps the trampoline effect at impact. The four weights in the sole of the XCG7 are low and towards the rear of the clubhead to give a higher launch angle while in the XCG& Beta they are higher and positioned closer to the face for a lower launch angle. As with their other models Tour Edge offers a lifetime warranty and 30-day return policy. Standard shafts include the Fujikura Fuel and Tour and the Matrix Ozik White, Red and Black Tie shafts. The XCG7 carries a suggested retail of $299.99 and the Beta model is $349.99. ED TRAVIS | Golf News & Opinion Golf Illustrated

“The Beast’s” New Driver

ModeIIsole
“The Beast’s” New Driver By ED TRAVIS Sean Fister earned his nickname “The Beast,” in part because he was the first to hit a ball over 400-yards in a World Long Drive Championship final. As a three time Re/Max World Long Drive champion with dozens of record drives and titles he has spent 25-years smashing the ball for distance…and money. So it’s obvious he knows about hitting the ball a long way and now his company, Fister Golf, has introduced a driver, tagged the Model I, that is designed to help golfers of all skill levels to hit the ball further from the tee. The Model is different than other drivers with the same type of titanium in the clubface, its face is stronger and has characteristic times (CT) just short of the limit made by the USGA. “Model is more than a product name, it is a commitment to golfers to offer the industry’s most technologically-advanced head, paired with the industry’s number one grip and premium shaft for unrivaled performance,” said Fister.  “Make no mistake; every aspect of the Model I was designed with the goal in mind of helping golfers hit it longer. Any golfer can benefit from the technology I’ve incorporated into this driver. The thorough research and development behind the Model I and the demanding manufacturing tolerances we mandate all combine with top-level components to ensure that the Model I is the highest quality, best performing driver available.” Cavities in the sole take up the shock of impact and distribute it back away from the face which helps to keep hook or slice spin to a minimum. The Model Is titanium hosel may be adjusted 1-degree to give each user the best loft, lie and face angle for their swing. The stock shaft is the Fujikura Motore F1. Retail price for the Fister Model I is $399 in either 9 or 10.5 degrees loft at fistergolf.com.   Images courtesy Fister Golf  ED TRAVIS | Golf News & Opinion Sean_The_Beast_Fister Golf Illustrated GolfFashionWeekly.com |Golf Fashion Friday

Miura Black Boron-10 Sets A Month Limit

Miura Black Boron-10 Sets A Month Limit
By ED TRAVIS

Miura Golf makes world class forged irons and the company says they “understand the value of a good finish. Just as with a golf swing, the right finish on a golf club can elevate it from wonderful to sublime.”

Following that philosophy Miura’s new Black Boron finish irons will only be available at the rate of 10 sets each month.

The Boron finish is a delicate manufacturing process that requires switching over the finishing production line from the usual nickel chrome setup. So far they have made sets of the CB-501s and Passing Point 9003s in this new Black Boron and the initial sets sold out rapidly.

"We've found black finishes so popular that we really had to look into making these, even though we can only manage small quantities and maintain Miura standards," said Adam Barr, president of Miura. The Black Boron's color density makes it look more deeply black than other black finishes; that's partially a result of the process, which gets the boron deep into the finish. The coloring is very durable as well. And the Black Borons offer one more black option for Miura enthusiasts. Our other black finish, the one on the Limited Forged Black Blades and Black Wedges, fades over time into a silvery-grey patina.

Suggested retail cost of the Black Boron irons will be $2275 for a set (4-PW) or $325 per club. Interested in buying a Black Boron set? Go to www.MiuraGolf.com to find a Miura authorized dealer/fitter or email info@miuragolf.com.
